For over two years, we have been successfully working with Coffee and Plants in the Sihlcity shopping center in Zurich. Coffee and Plants is a unique combination of a café-bar and a potted plant shop, where guests can enjoy specialty coffees, seasonal sandwiches, and both sweet and savory dishes – including vegetarian and vegan options. Additionally, ready-potted houseplants are available for purchase. Besides coffee, guests can also enjoy beer, wine, and Prosecco, either on-site or as takeaway.

The digital loyalty card in the poinz app
poinz has become an integral part of everyday life at Coffee and Plants, and customers respond very positively to the digital loyalty card. The number of loyalty card users is in the four-digit range, with 10% of all loyalty cards being opened directly through the poinz app. For 72% of in-app registrations, a visit to Coffee and Plants followed, and the global stamp frequency of active users is under 15 days.
With an open rate of nearly 30%, customers respond well to the push notifications that Coffee and Plants sends to its own customers via the poinz platform. For example, as a thank-you for their loyalty, Coffee and Plants sent a message at the end of the year to all loyalty card holders, gifting them a free loyalty stamp. 83% of those who read the message collected the stamp.

3 Questions for Federico
Federico Freiermuth is the founder and owner of Coffee and Plants, and we met him for a chat over coffee and cake.
Federico, why did you choose poinz?
Federico: “While looking for a simple and affordable customer loyalty solution, I quickly came across poinz. The stamp card concept is very well known in Switzerland, and with the digital poinz solution, we can easily convince our customers to use the loyalty card. Everything was up and running within just a few days, and we have never had any problems.”
How do your customers respond to the digital loyalty card?
Federico: “Most of them love it because they always have their smartphone with them, and it’s fun to see an extra point light up. For me, it's important that we can give something back to our customers and show appreciation. This is very well received, and we have beautiful moments at the checkout every day.”
How do you make customers aware of the loyalty card?
Federico: “We actively distribute our flyer with a QR code, which allows customers to open the loyalty card directly. A simple phrase like ‘Look here, the 11th coffee is free, and you can collect points right away with your smartphone’ is enough. Often, customers see others collecting points and ask what it is and how it works.”
